Scotts to the Rescue

During the next couple of days I researched everything I could.  There are great articles and videos available at www.ehow.com and at www.scotts.com. The information here ranges from seeding, watering, fertilizing, mowing and much more.  Scotts, in addition, has a consultation line you can call. So I did. When you call you have the option of signing up for their newsletter that is tailored (so they say) for what you need to do for your lawn.

They told me that for my lawn and its present condition I need to add Scotts HaltsThe Scotts Co. 49805A Halts ;  this acts as an pre-emergent and controls the weeds before they sprout.  Unfortunately for me the weeds had already taken control of the lawn.  Nonetheless, I felt that I had to add this to start taking control back.  While speaking to my next door neighbor, they also used Halt.  And their lush, thick green grass proves it!
